Our week of "deswaddlization" began the first of October and seemed like it took years. I had read and heard about a million ways to wean from the swaddle, but alas we went cold turkey. The one arm out theory was worthless. This week included many hours of us listening to him cry, wishing we could make it easier for him. The first time I put him down with his arms out he literally thrashed all over the place and slammed his arms into the sides of the crib. He really missed the security of the swaddle. However at the end of the week, Troy was an old pro. He now comfortably sleeps with his arms out and we still wrap his lower half so that he has a blanket.
Peacefully sleeping without being swaddled
Now, we're on to a new problem, the need for multiple inserts of the pacifier throughout the night. I shall not complain though, because Troy still sleeps from 7pm until 6am. I can count on one hand how many times I have had to get him out of the crib to console him during the night. We are grateful for a good night's rest.
Yippee! We've also stopped reinserting paci's throughout the night! He may fuss for a minute, but he puts himself back to sleep now :)
