Yum! Cereal....

I can't really say that I understand why Troy loves his cereal so much, but he does.  I tasted it and thought it was pretty awful.  However, I can't say that I'd enjoy baby milk either.  Something tells me I couldn't have protested too much though about thrity years ago.  Troy has been chowing down and enjoys cereal for breakfast and for dinner.  I'll be interested to see what he thinks of other foods once he turns six months.

Keeping it Social

We have been quick to take advantage of time to spend with family and friends, and below are a few pictures of those we have visited with lately.  This isn't everyone, but I try to capture a picture when the opportunity arises!

Lindsay came from Houston!  She gave us the coolest "L" is for Louisville book.

Miller is always happy to see baby Troy!

Pumpkin Time

Over the last couple of weekends, we have enjoyed prepping Troy for his first Halloween.  Although it's not my favorite holiday, we definitely needed a pumpkin and a cute baby costume. I'm certain that future Halloweens will bring less cute costumes (Star Wars, Ninjas, etc.), therefore I'm taking advantage of the time I have to dress him in cute costumes!  This year, Troy is going to be a cuddly green dragon!  The pictures below were taken at a farmer's market near our house.  We need to get more pics of the back of his outfit!!!!  I'll be sure to do so on Halloween.

For the longest time, Matt and I have carved pumpkins around Halloween.  We've attempted carvings of the Chicago Bears and the UK Wildcats.  This year was a bit more traditional.  Troy humored us by acting as if he enjoyed carving a pumpkin! Actually, he was quite inquisitive of what we were doing.  We decided to make a classic jack o' lantern, and one with a happy face.

Deswaddlization....

Ok, so yes, I made up this term.  I feel as though this process deserved its own term since it is indeed a cumbersome process.  As much as the Miracle Blanket was a miracle, it was just as much of a terror to wean.  I was very sad to see our uninterrupted sleep come to a screeching halt when we weaned from the blanket, but it was inevitable now that Troy is rolling over.

Our week of "deswaddlization" began the first of October and seemed like it took years.  I had read and heard about a million ways to wean from the swaddle, but alas we went cold turkey.  The one arm out theory was worthless.  This week included many hours of us listening to him cry, wishing we could make it easier for him.  The first time I put him down with his arms out he literally thrashed all over the place and slammed his arms into the sides of the crib.  He really missed the security of the swaddle.   However at the end of the week, Troy was an old pro.  He now comfortably sleeps with his arms out and we still wrap his lower half so that he has a blanket.

Peacefully sleeping without being swaddled

Now, we're on to a new problem, the need for multiple inserts of the pacifier throughout the night.  I shall not complain though, because Troy still sleeps from 7pm until 6am.  I can count on one hand how many times I have had to get him out of the crib to console him during the night.  We are grateful for a good night's rest.
